Circular Textiles Twente Programme 2019-2023
The textile waste mountain is growing every year and only part of it (about 30%) is reused or recycled. For a successful transition from a linear to a circular textile industry, cooperation and innovation are necessary to greatly reduce the environmental impact. At the end of 2019, the programme ‘Circular Textiles Twente’ was launched to realise a circular textile chain. With the ambition to double the collected textile waste in the Twente region.
Thanks to support from the Regio Deal Twente and contribution from the partners in the TexPlus foundation, resources and facilities have been made possible to improve textile recycling and make prototypes of products. The programme can accelerate the development of circular textiles and contribute to their industrial up-scaling, in order to fill the demand for textile fibres with recycled and sustainable fibres.
The Circular Textile Twente programme is made possible by the cooperation of: Stichting TexPlus (principal), Twente Milieu, Regionaal Textielsortingcentrum Twente BV, Frankenhuis BV, SaXcell BV, Saxion and Enschede Textielstad Innovatie BV. Implementation is realised in close cooperation with other stakeholders and initiatives in the Dutch Circular Textile Valley, and industry partners in the Netherlands and beyond
The Regio Deal is the proof that close cooperation between various parties contributes positively to the development of Twente. Within this programme, promising regional projects were identified that have a positive effect on social challenges. Think, for instance, of the reduction of labour shortages or the task of making the region more sustainable. But challenges in the areas of healthcare and agriculture will also require significant knowledge investments in the coming years. And we are increasingly working together across borders.
